Everything changed on 1950 when Mao-tse-Tung's marauding army invaded Tibet, they chose to seek refuge in India. There are more than 150,000 Tibetan refugee in India today. Dalai Lama even operates governent-in-exile from India for Tibet. China systematically subjugated Tibetan, tried to erase their heritage, culture and social structure by imposing totalitarian ideology of communist China. The most visible signs of it was the protest of Tibetan during the Beijing Olympic torch relay and self immolation of Monks protesting Chinese Rule in Tibet.

Since the fall of Lhasa, India has the highest population of Tibetan outside of Tibet. India is predominantly a Hindu country still there has been no instance of friction between Tibetan and Hindus in India due their religious beliefs. Ask, any Tibetan anywhere in the world about their opinion of Indians and you will know that they have extremely friendly attitude towards them. This talks volume about Indians and their tolerant and culture of assimilation.
